Frequently asked questions
How did you get started writing children's books?
I have always told stories to my children at bedtime. At night I would make up stories for them and let them dream up the ending. It was their "Good Dream". Once they got older, I still had the stories in my head and decided to write them down. I set a goal of writing 10 books in 10 years and accomplished that in 2017.
How do you come up with your ideas?
I get my story ideas from all over. I love to sit in nature and let my mind wander. I watch and listen to people, especially children, to help answer the questions they have.
Why do you like to write children's books?
I hope to teach children about the topic and instill a love for books. Children will learn to love reading if they love the people they are reading with.
What is your favorite way to write? (pencil and paper, computer...)
I love pencils! Just regular wooden pencils with eraser caps that are yellow or white. I know it may sound strange, but they make me happy. I like to write longhand in notebooks. Then I can make notes in the margins and draw illustrations with them. I put them on the computer and do my true editing there.
Do you have a special place you like to write?
I work everywhere. Ideas will come into my mind overnight, in the middle of the day, while I am hiking, pretty much everywhere. I always carry a notebook with me so I can jot down ideas that I have.
Do you have advice for children who love to write and for those who don't?
Where can I get an autographed copy of your books?
I am happy to autograph books for people. You can go to my website and order a book, or email me and tell me who you are and what book you would like to order. I can sign it and send it right out. grubnedor@comcast.net
